Game Recap

Wauwatosa West began the New Berlin Tournament facing a tough Kaukauna team in pool play. A slow start yielded two losses, 15-25 and 17-25. Next up, Brookfield East won 25-21 and 25-20, but Tosa West kept it close for both games. Our last opponent of pool play was Kettle Moraine, another competitive team. West split games losing the first 25-22 and winning 25-20. Although the end results aren’t all wins, the overall play looked good and the guys were building chemistry.

The consolation bracket started with Kimberly, an opponent that we had split games with the previous weekend. We won the first game 25-18 and 25-20 the second. After that, Tosa West faced Brookfield East for a second time and started off a little slow dropping game one 16-25. We rallied the next game and fought for a 26-24 win. The final game against Brookfield East to get to the consolation championship went back and forth. West showed poise in a tense situation and ended victorious, 17-15.

Riding the wave of adrenaline, Tosa West kept the momentum of beating Brookfield East going against Arrowhead in the consolation championship game. West won game one 25-18 and finished game two 25-22. Tosa West had faced Arrowhead in the previous tournament and West lost in three games, so it was redeeming to win in two. The players showed improved confidence as the tournament progressed and demonstrated that they can stay cool under pressure in tight situations if they play together.
