Justin Steinike & Jaylyn Kelley

Boys Basketball

Senior guards Justin Steinike and Jaylyn Kelley led the Wauwatosa West varsity boys basketball team to a 2-1 record at the Kankakee Holiday Tournament on December 26-28, 2019. The Trojans finished in second place at the three day event in Illinois. Steinike and Kelley were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts. The Trojans defeated Johnson Prep by a final score of 73-66 in the quarterfinals and beat Chicago Lindblom by a final score of 56-47 in the semifinals before falling to the host school Kankakee by a final score of 45-38 in the championship game.

Justin Steinike scored 26 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals in the opening game vs. Johnson Prep. Steinike followed up that performance the next game with 21 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists vs. Chicago Lindblom. In the championship game vs. Kankakee, Steinike tallied 7 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. Justin averaged 18 points per game during the Kankakee Holiday Tournament and remains the Trojans leading scorer at 17.4 points per game heading back into Greater Metro Conference play. He is also featured in the Today’s TMJ4 Sports student-athlete spotlight segment this week. Congratulations Justin!

Jaylyn Kelley scored 11 points in the opening game vs. Johnson Prep. Kelley then poured in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists vs. Chicago Lindblom. In the championship game vs. Kankakee, Kelley tallied 11 points yet again and chipped in a couple of rebounds and assists. Kelley is third on the team in scoring with 8.8 points per game and second on the team with 3.2 assists per game heading back into Greater Metro Conference play. Congratulations Jaylyn!
