Tosa West defeated Whitefish Bay in an overtime thriller 47-45 on Friday night in the regional semifinals. Tosa West got of to a slow start offensively. Despite getting open looks their shots were not falling and the Blue Dukes led 22-13 at halftime. Olivia Bree had 8 of the Trojans 13 first half points. In the second half, the Trojans finally got an outside shot to drop when Irene Phillips banked in a 3…foreshadowing? The Trojans caught up and even took the lead by as much as 4 as a back and forth affair played out in the second half. Whitefish Bay had a chance to win the game in regulation but a layup at the buzzer didn’t drop and the two teams headed to OT. In OT the ups and downs continued as both teams took leads and lost them. With 15 seconds to go, Bay got a layup to go up 45-44. Tosa West did not call timeout and pushed the ball up the floor. Irene Phillips caught a pass and put up a shot that would have been well beyond the NBA 3 point line. Luckily for the Trojans, the bank was open late in Whitefish Bay and the Trojans had a 47-45 lead with 4.5 seconds left. Irene Phillips sealed the deal by stealing Bay’s Inbounds pass. Irene Phillips led Tosa West in scoring with 18 points. All 18 came in the second half. Olivia Bree also scored in double figures with 12 points in her first start of the year. Tosa West advances to the regional final on Saturday night at 7pm where they will play at home vs. Milwaukee Washington.
